The science that studies the relation between the flow of materials and applied forces is called rheology. As the example of dough shows, this relation is far from simple.

It is important during the processing and application of innumerable products that occur in everyday life. Rheological properties control the sagging of adhesives, the settling of fillers, the stability of cosmetic emulsions or the processability of concrete. Careful study of rheological properties using advanced instrumentation and theory is therefore of paramount importance for the development and customer acceptance of these products. In case the basic formulation as such does not provide the desired rheological profile, a rheological additive is needed that does. Evonik offers a range of products that are carefully tailored to suit the needs of every application.
