FT waxes

The Fischer-Tropsch process yields straight-chain products (FT waxes) possessing low melt viscosity and having molecular weights of between 500 and 1000g/mol.

Role of FT waxes in hotmelt adhesives (HMAs):

Reduction of viscosity
  • ensure efficient mixing of the different components (polymers, resins)
  • facilitates even surface wetting of the substrates

 

Increase of cristallinity
  • regulation of open- and setting-time

 

Reduction of surface stickiness
  • better storage stability
  • reduces blocking of HMA granules or pellets
